In Suriname, you are legally required to have a WAM insurance (Compulsory Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance) for your car, truck, bus, or any other motor vehicle.
This insurance provides liability coverage only, meaning it covers damage you cause to third parties.

If you want broader protection, you can choose WAM and Comprehensive (Casco) Insurance.

WAM Insurance
  • Coverage limits, effective January 1, 2026, range between SRD 375,000 and SRD 2,000,000.
  • Two-country coverage: valid in Suriname and Guyana.
  • Third party liability coverage for property damage and bodily injury (up to the insured limit).
  • Reimbursement of towing costs incurred by the third party (the claimant).

WAM Plus
  • Material damage to your own vehicle, caused by you, someone else or anything outside.
  • Maximum of two claims per year, up to the selected coverage limit of SRD 70,000 or SRD 125,000 per incident.
  • Applicable to vehicles between 6 and 20 years old (conditions apply).
  • Damage resulting from collision, skidding, overturning, driving off the road, or ending up in water.
  • Theft, burglary, fire, and glass breakage of your vehicle.
  • All other external causes (other unforeseen external events).
  • Costs for security and transportation to the nearest repair facility
